I may have been disappointed by Pan's Labyrinth, but at least it attempts to subvert expectations and revamp stock storylines. The Lives Of Others spends its last fifteen minutes in flash forward after flash forward in search of a happy ending, settling for an epilogue that implies no good deed goes unrecognized. Aww.
