If I'm going to have a comments box, I might as well employ it: Do you have a FAVORITE single or album from this year yet? I'm not talking some by-default choice, I'm talking a non-reissue 2006 release that you treasure. I've got plenty of likes (I'll be doing a first half of 2006 round-up eventually), but little in the way of loves. Is anything seriously floating people's boats right now?

Single: Camera Obscura - "Lloyd, I'm Ready To Be Heartbroken"

I love a couple of others too, but I'm having trouble remembering them right this second (because I'm absent minded, not because I love them any less).

Same with albums, but I think Hot Chip and the Knife are pretty solidly neck-and-neck right now. The Knife might be leading a bit.

I'm very high on Ghostface, Pearl Jam, and Sonic Youth. As a notorious Sonic Nurse enthusiast, I'm shocked by how much I like this one; it may even be a better album (there's an exchange b/w me and Mike Powell I posted on my blog summarizing our responses).

Liars - Drum's Not Dead! They may always release my favorite album of the year, whenever they release one. I thought that Fiery Furnaces might be the same deal, but I have to listen to it again. That Sonic Youth disc may be better, imo, than their last one.

"something isn't right" on scale, by herbert. burn the rest of scale in effigy to saint germain, who probably ghostwrote it. but that first cut, apart from being such a bumpy casual piece of lounge-dance music, shows that herbert really does have practical, energetic ideas...a little mouse on mars jerkiness, some horny daft punk lovers rock...mmmm...

THANK YOU. Always good to know someone else gets it.
